Bishop Derek Grier

Senior Pastor

Bishop Derek Grier currently serves as the founding pastor of Grace Church in Dumfries, Virginia. The church began in 1998 with 10 adults and two children. Under his leadership, it has grown to nearly 10,000 members, with more than 40 life-changing ministries.

In September 2022, Grace Church celebrated its new worship center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by its grand opening in October. Grace Church is now approaching one million followers across its digital platforms and continues to extend its reach with the launch of a new satellite campus in Fredericksburg, Virginia, which hosts an 8:30 a.m. worship service every Sunday.

In late 2023, Derek Grier Ministries (DGM) launched on social media, expanding its global reach to more than eight million followers and subscribers. Millions of people in the United States and around the world have heard and viewed his radio and television programs.

Bishop Grier was ordained as a bishop in May 2008 by the late Dr. Myles Munroe. He currently mentors hundreds of Christian leaders and business owners through the Reach Leadership Network (RLN). He has served on several boards of directors, including that of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA), an organization that accredits leading Christian nonprofit organizations that demonstrate high standards of financial accountability and transparency.

Bishop Grier’s uncompromising approach to preaching and teaching the Gospel has helped lead Grace Church to phenomenal growth. In 2025, Grace Church celebrated an extraordinary milestone by being named to Outreach Magazine’s list of the “100 Fastest-Growing Churches in America” for the fifth time.

In 2011, Bishop Grier founded Virginia Christian College (VCC), a respected institution dedicated to Christian education. He currently serves as its chancellor, with Dr. Courtney McBath serving as president. VCC is an accredited institution committed to providing quality education and equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed.

In 2026, VCC expanded its academic offerings with the introduction of three programs: the School of Business and Leadership, the School of Christian Ministry, and the School of Human Services. These additions further strengthen the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, professional development, and community impact.

Bishop Grier is a published author whose most recent book, When God Stops, was released by Thomas Nelson in August 2019.

One of Bishop Grier’s most recent God-inspired initiatives, National Unity Weekend, was founded to position the Christ-centered church as a pivotal force in guiding society toward racial unity. Through Gospel-centered teachings and practical community service, the initiative addresses the diverse needs of communities across America. National Unity Weekend is celebrated annually on the second weekend of June.

National Unity Weekend continues to expand its reach and influence, having engaged 167 churches across 36 states and extended its international engagement to six countries. These milestones reflect its growing commitment to unity, collaboration, and meaningful connections among churches and communities both nationally and internationally. Through its outreach efforts, hundreds of thousands of pounds of food and other essential resources have been distributed to individuals and families in need.

Bishop Grier and his wife, Yeromitou, reside in Northern Virginia. They have two adult sons, Derek Jr. and David, as well as a daughter-in-law, Debby, and a grandson, Roman.
